Flower show hailed a great success

Hundreds of people gathered to enjoy this summer’s Englefield Flower Show and School Fete.

This year was the first time the event committee collaborated with the Englefield Church of England Primary School and it was hailed a great success with visitor numbers and entries to the flower and produce show up by 50 per cent.

Held on the primary school’s field on Saturday, July 15th, the school’s Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) came on board to help host the event. Visitors enjoyed stalls, crafts, classic cars and a barbecue as well as entertainment from the Beenham Wind Orchestra and the Englefield School Choir.

Show categories included fruit, vegetables and flowers as well as baked goods and handicrafts and entries came from various clubs and individuals including Bradfield Gardening Club and Dr Ellerton’s Allotments Association.

Flower show chairman Mark Postles commented “The PTA was wonderful and the event was very enjoyable. The judges were delighted with the good number of entries across the categories in the show and the standard was high. We would welcome even more entries next year.

“People were milling around and sitting down enjoying refreshments and there was a really relaxed atmosphere and had a community feel, and this is exactly what we wanted to achieve.”

Mark is keen to receive feedback on the changes made to the event and anyone who wants to contribute should email him at mapostles@gmail.com
