Another hugely successful weekend of music and entertainment has taken place in the grounds of Englefield House, bringing thousands of people to the Estate between Friday July 19 and Monday July 22.
Organised with outdoor music specialists Heritage Live, three nights of concerts were followed by the moving Flackstock Festival, held for the third year in a row in memory of entertainer and TV presenter Caroline Flack.
Madness, who have been making music for a remarkable 48 years, headlined on the first night of the Summer Concerts series for 2024, delighting a sell-out crowd with their classic hit singles including ‘Baggy Trousers' ‘House of Fun’ and ‘Our House.’ They were supported by the Lightning Seeds, and the Old Time Sailors.
On Saturday night DJ legend Pete Tong helped recreate a little bit of Mediterranean magic in West Berkshire, bringing his Ibiza Classics show to the Englefield stage, with Jules Buckley and the Essential Orchestra. They were joined by The Grid and Groove Armada.
Sunday night saw Manchester rockers Elbow, fresh from opening the new Co-op indoor arena in their home city, headline. They were supported by Villagers and Hamish Hawk, rounding off three nights of concerts, all of which were enthusiastically received by packed crowds.
Flackstock, on Monday, saw musicians, DJs, TV stars and friends of Caroline, gather to entertain the crowds and remember the TV presenter. Flackstock also raises money for mental health charities, Choose Love, Mind, Samaritans and Charlie Waller Trust – charities that held a special place in Caroline’s heart.
Peter Carson, Englefield Estate’s Events Manager, said: “Once again Englefield House has proved to be the perfect backdrop for fabulous musical entertainment and the moving and uplifting Flackstock festival.
“We are so fortunate to be able to stage these shows in such a beautiful location and so grateful to the Estate staff and our residents and neighbours for their support during what is always a very busy long weekend. Even the weather, in what has been a notoriously changeable summer, played ball!”
Estates Director Edward Crookes said the Heritage Live concerts and Flackstock contributed to the Estate’s diverse events offering. He added: “They are good fun, provide benefits to the wider local economy and enrich life for the people who live and work here.”
